
Earlier this week I had the privilege of attending the inauguration of President Barack H. Obama. The picture above was taken from my perch on the roof overlooking the National Mall, witnessing history unfold alongside 1.8 million fellow Americans.
In my previous few blog posts I’ve reflected on the
challenges the new President will face, as well as the importance of his inaugural call for America to begin “
setting aside childish things,” in order to move into a new era of shared sacrifice and responsibility.
As is often the case for me, I find it easier to reflect on the grand significance of events, argue the finer points of public policy, or articulate a theological idea -- than to dig deeper and find words for what I am personally thinking and feeling. The days following this historic event have been no exception.
