Today U2 sang the song “Pride” (In the Name of Love) on the steps of the Lincoln Memorial. Just steps from where Martin Luther King Jr. gave his “I Have a Dream” speech. Bono wrote this song about MLK in 1984.

No matter what your politics, this is an incredible week. As we celebrate MLK day tomorrow and the historical inauguration of Barack Obama on Tuesday… let’s do it “in the name of love”.

Love for those who never knew they “can”
Love as we realize it’s about more than just a man
Love for the kids who want to believe in King’s dream
Love for the seniors who will see what they never thought they’d see
Love for the parents who feel like they are up against the world
Love for the tears in the eyes of young boys and girls
Love for the way that this could change their life
Love for those who fought through incredible strife
Love for those who stood up against oppression in the past
Love that will remind us to make sure their legacy lasts
Love to bring stereotypes crashing to the ground
Love as we see that together all our liberation is bound
Love to cover the multitude of sins
Love because we know it’s the only thing that wins
Love as we bellow “let freedom ring!”
Love for the deep truth in the worth to all, given by our God and King.

"In the name of love, what more in the name of love."
